Wine has been made here since the Roman occupation and was developed during the XII Century by the Cistercian Monks.  The Mediterranean climate is influenced by the proximity of the highest mountain in Portugal – Serra Estrela. Summers here are very dry and hot, and winters are very cold. These extreme conditions make for wonderful soft wines with strong character.
